Google Cloud Releases HPC Specific VM Images
New out of the box HPC specific virtual machine images from Google Cloud Platform
Google Cloud has released HPC specific VM images based on both Rocky Linux 8 and CentOS 7.

HPC VM image makes it easy to build an HPC-ready VM instance for MPI workloads, and is now available with Rocky Linux 8 and CentOS 7 VMs.
The announcement includes a number of benchmark results that show the improvements versus non HPC specific VM images. The benchmarks do rather focus on network specific improvements and while networking can certainly be important for HPC workloads it leaves me wondering what impact these images have on actual compute performance….
