HPC Cloud Updates WE 12 Oct 2025
Boof tells us the difference between PCS and PC, a couple of new instance types using AMD and Intel processors that look handy for HPC workload. Google gives us a way to reduce bills and the all-important DORA report.

AWS
Well of course since I joked about Parallel Cluster and Parallel Computing Service in the last edition, right on cue (but obviously must have been recorded before) Boof releases a video explaining the difference between the two
We get new AMD 5th generation powered M8a instances available for use (and yes we’ve already benchmarked them)

New Xeon 6 Powered c8i instances too in the same week (we benchmarked these too)
New Regional Instances: l7i in Spain, c6in in Mexico, m6in and m6idn in Seoul, l7ie in Sao Paulo, m8gd and c8gd in a bunch of new places including Ireland, Sydney and Malaysia, c7gd in Zurich
Azure
I think my Microsoft friends won’t be thanking me for sharing this one, but I think it’s worth a watch…
Well, I guess this was on the cards since Azure Managed Redis was announced but we now have an actual retirement date for Azure Cache for Redis and its Enterprise brother.
