HPC Cloud Updates WE 15 Mar 2026
Updates to AWS, Azure & GCP in the last week relevant for HPC practitioners. Some instance types available in new regions on AWS, some details on how to do air gapped inference on Azure and that’s your lot.
AWS
New Regional Instance: R8a in Tokyo, M8azn in Ohio, HPC8a in Tokyo, M8i and flex in Ireland and London, C8id in Spain, [CM]8gd in Sao Paulo and Ireland, R7gd in Sao Paulo.
Azure
I guess AI inference is a type of HPC if you’re serving enough users. Doing it in air gapped environments on cloud? Didn’t think that was possible and I guess if you use the strict sense of the word air gapped it’s not but this is what you can do in Azure.
