HPC Cloud Updates WE 22 Feb 2026
Updates to AWS, Azure & GCP in the last week relevant for HPC practitioners. AWS Gives us a new HPC specific AMD powered VM type and the ability to run nested virtualisation (but not on AMD). Azure and Nvidia get even cosier.
AWS
New AMD Powered HPC8c VM types
Nested Virtualisation Support now available on EC2. This is pretty cool not only for things like build and test pipelines but also if you want to run virtualised (including certain types of containerised) HPC workloads. Looks like its limited to 8th gen Intel VM types (C8i, M8i and R8i) only for now though.
New Regional Instances: G7e in Tokyo, M8i-flex in a lot of places, R8i and flex in Ireland, C8a in Frankfurt and Ireland
Azure
Azure becomes the first Nvidia Exemplar Cloud
Google Cloud
Quite a lot from Google this week including a new LLM but nothing terribly HPC specific.
