Money from the Cloud

Need a hand walking the tight rope that is taking money from your cloud provider?

Money from the Cloud

💰 Free money is always great right? Especially when it comes from your favourite cloud. Problem is, it’s never really free, is it? It always comes with strings attached.

I think it’s a fairly open secret at this point that cloud providers, processor manufacturers, software vendors and probably a whole range of other merchants have a non-trivial budget that can be allocated to clients to help get your workload running on their cloud/ processor/ software etc.

Typically, the money gets allocated to a professional services company that will supply people to do the work to get your applications running on the chosen cloud. They’ll work with your cloud solution architect to make this happen and all the while they will swear blue in the face that this isn’t about lock in. It’s about providing the best solution for your needs.

Want to know a secret 🤐? That’s pretty much true. Ha. Bet that’s not what you thought I was going to say. Having worked with many solution architects, I can genuinely say that they are sincerely interested in finding the best possible solution for you. Mostly because most of them started their careers as engineers and they can’t help themselves do anything but!

Want to know another secret? You can bet your bottom dollar there’s another parallel conversation also going on about how “sticky” your migration is. Yes, your solution architect is an engineer, but they are actually a part of the sales organisation of your cloud provider. They have to report to people who definitely are monitoring your spend and estimating how long that will continue. Like I said at the start, strings attached.

If you’d like a hand navigating this particular spider’s web, well that’s where we come in. Drop me a DM if you want to talk more.
