Issue #42 of the weekly HPC newsletter by HMx Labs. Welcome to 2025 everyone

Quantum #42

I hope you’ve all had a good break and welcome back and to 2025. Here’s to looking forward to a great year for HPC 🎉  (I know we have a few big things in store).

Things are, as to be expected, pretty quiet on the news front this week though we do have our own roundup of most popular stories from 2024 and while not the usual predictions for 2025 a longer piece on some things I’d like to see in HPC (this year? That might be pushing my luck).

In The News

Updates from the big three clouds on all things HPC.

HPC Cloud Updates WE 05 Jan 2025
Updates to AWS, Azure & GCP in the last week relevant for HPC practitioners

and in other news.

AI, power availability and Intel’s future
The coming year will see continued interest in familiar data center topics, including the ROI of AI, power constraints, liquid cooling, and Intel leadership.
RISC-V is making moves, but how will it hit the mainstream?
Can it topple x86 and Arm, or is the gap too wide to close?
