Quantum #43
Issue #43 of the weekly HPC newsletter by HMx Labs.
Two weeks into 2025 and NVIDIA is making waves with huge chips and desktop machines, TSMC is printing money and AMD is winding up to unleash Turin upon us. This could be a fun year for HPC.
In The News
Updates from the big three clouds on all things HPC. Still a bit quiet to be honest.
There’s been a lot of noise about NVIDIA’s take on an Intel NUC with the release of Project DIGITS. I have no doubt this is fantastic for AI, yet I can’t seem to get too excited about it. Maybe once someone has a Beowulf cluster of them and we have some idea of how many real FLOPs they can actually handle?
The UK is aiming to grow its data centre capacity at quite a rate. I wonder where the power will come from? With electricity prices at 4x that of the US will anyone even want to use them? Oh, right we’re betting on the “small modular reactors” that big tech is pitching us….
