Quantum #51
Issue #51 of the weekly HPC newsletter by HMx Labs. HPC Club 2.0 feedback requested. Is quantum computing useful? Your weekly HPC Cloud release notes.

Another week, another issue of your weekly HPC newsletter, but also another successful HPC Club event. The few people I’ve chatted to so far spoke highly of the event, and I’d love your feedback too. Liked it or hated it, let us know so we can improve things for the next one. We can’t call this a HPC community driven club if we don’t hear back from the community after all!

There are so many of you I didn’t get a chance to speak to and more than a few interesting topics of conversation. I think I might start a new series: “Tales from HPC Club” recounting some of the most interesting bits I heard. Possibly at the risk of no one ever speaking to me at a future event again though 😆
In The News
Updates from the big three clouds on all things HPC.

Mostly about CoreWeave and OpenAI but has some interesting insights. Particularly the utilisation. I’d love some more general insight on the utilisation levels of hypersalcers! Anyone want to share?

Is quantum computing actually useful for anything yet? D Wave thinks so. Others disagree. I have to admit I barely understand the use case being discussed and am a long way from being able to hold an opinion on the utility of quantum computing in this particular domain… However, I’ve had more than a few conversations recently about quantum computing and with people I didn’t expect to be interested at all. So now I’m curious, who out there is actually looking at quantum and thinking: Can I use this?
From HMx Labs
It’s been a while since we publicly shared any COREx benchmark results. We thought it was about time that it escaped the confines of the skunkworks for a bit and had an opportunity to strut its stuff

You’re as welcome as ever to contribute, please drop us an email at [email protected] for anything you’d like to see featured or if you’d like to write for Flux by HMx Labs yourself.
