Quantum #55

Issue #55 of the weekly HPC newsletter by HMx Labs. Lots from Google Cloud Next of course, HPC set to be worth over $100B and dust bunnies. It’s all here.

Quantum #55

Avoid dust bunnies and allergies. Use the cloud!

We’re a bit unusual at HMx Labs in that we choose to run our own hardware on our own premises. While there’s still an outside chance this may turn out to be a brilliant strategic move (given global geopolitical tensions) in the mean time, it means we have to deal with dust bunnies and re-racking machines to make space. Which I started on yesterday… Heads up, we might have some downtime on hmxlabs.io and cloudhpc.news over the Easter weekend.

Oh you want the real HPC news? That’s down below 😁

It’s funny how HPC can be quite specialised niche yet at the same time be so broad

HPC is a Broad Niche
Whilst HPC is generally considered to be a niche part of computing, it is one that is incredibly broad and cuts across many disciplines.

AI Inferences vs Realtime Trading Risk
If overnight and real-time risk can share the same resources and scheduler, why can’t AI training and inference workloads?
