Quantum #71
Issue #71 of the weekly HPC newsletter by HMx Labs. AI supercomputers, remote working and soliciting your thoughts on what to include here in future.

I’m struggling with the news section this week. There’s a lot of chatter about TPC25 but that’s more AI and science than it is HPC in my view so wasn’t sure if it really fits. There’s a couple of semi-interesting articles on Next Platform but both are actually adverts in disguise which kind of feels almost like it negates the few good points that they do make… and I wasn’t really sure if I should include promotional material.
I guess this raises the question of what would you like to see here? When I started writing this, I intended to cover the geeky, computer related bits of HPC. The parts that everyone could relate to regardless of whether your analytics operated on financial instruments, proteins, weather patterns or fluid dynamics. Though I do stray from that goal a little now and again for sure. Now that we have more than just a couple of others at HMx Labs and my cat (read CMO) that read this, it would be interesting to hear what you’d like to see more (or less) of.
I will be attempting to work completely remotely from HMx Labs’ mobile office (as featured in previous posts) at some point in the coming week or so. Our CMO will be staying behind and manning the headquarters though so fear not. Hmm… I wonder if we can do a HPC Club Lite at short notice in Paris? In August. When all the Parisians will be away on holiday. Maybe not. (Feel free to correct me).

In The News
Cloud HPC release note and news. Do we need a new name for this?

Inside HPC’s HPC News Bytes (podcast) contrasts the size of machines in the Top500 with the 20 largest AI supercomputers. It would have been interesting for them to delve into this a bit further, though I guess we don’t really have the same kind of data for the top 20 that we do in the top 500.
