Cosplaying as Consultants
What is HMx Labs? A Consultancy? A Tech company? Something else entirely?

When people ask “what does HMx Labs do?” I tell them it’s a consultancy. I’ll let you into a secret though. Come closer. I don’t wany anyone else to hear this.
I’m lying.
We’re more like tech company cosplaying as consultants.
Every now and again I’ll be in a conversation and the other person will have an increasingly perplexed look on their face as I explain how we don’t want to re-implement the same thing multiple times. Usually that look turns into “are you stupid?”
Look I get it. Consultancies make money by selling their time/services again and again. And if that means you can copy paste work from one client to the next, that’s higher profit margins, right? Talk about boring. Where is the fun in that!?
I don’t want to copy/paste solutions. I want to solve the hard problems. And if we see the same one more than once, like any good engineers, we want to solve it once! For everyone.
If you’ve ever wondered why we spend our time and effort in doing things like HPC Club or Supercomputing Strategy Group well hopefully that gives you a little bit of insight. Sometimes the problems aren’t so much technological as they are sociological. Hmm Maybe we’re not a tech firm either 🤣
