HPC CLUB 2.0
Want to help shape the next HPC CLUB meet?
I have some ideas. I want to share them. Most of all I’d like your input.
This is one of those times that I’d actually like feedback. This isn’t one of those posts that pretends to ask for feedback but is really a humble brag or a sales pitch. I want to know what you want.
I set out to make HPC CLUB something for the HPC community and all the ideas in the world won’t help if that’s not what you all want.
Date
📅 Let’s ease into this with the simple stuff. Whilst I initially thought this might be a monthly event, I think that may be a little too much work for us. Also, given the level of interest and distance people are willing to travel, perhaps a touch too frequent.
I’d like to propose the next meet up tentatively for March 11th 2025. If that clashes or is too close to something else important in the HPC, tech or school calendars please let me know. If you feel strongly that these should be more frequent (or less?) start raging in the comments below 😊
Theme
💡 I want to talk about schedulers. Particularly schedulers in a changing world as we go from homogenous on prem compute to heterogenous geographically diverse compute. But that’s just me. What about you? Suggestions please and I’ll put the top three or four up for a vote next week.
Format & Venue
📍 I loved the informal nature of the last event and all the fantastic parallel (see what I did there) conversations and anecdotes. Your inputs and thoughts on this are welcome though. Conversely, it didn’t work so well in terms of having someone present. Not sure if it’s possible to find a venue that will strike a better balance. Submissions on a postcard please!
Lastly, I’m wondering if there is appetite for a slightly more structured roundtable type discussion (possibly with a more limited audience). This would be in addition and perhaps as a precursor to the main event. The idea behind this would be to create an industry group of sorts with vendors and large users of HPC to try and help drive future direction.
