HPC is like Poker

HPC is like poker.

I don’t recall how exactly this conversation came about, but that was the opening claim. As per the rules of HPC Club, I won’t disclose who said it, but that person is welcome to claim credit here 😄

“HPC is like poker. You start of thinking it’s about the cards but then realise it’s about the people.”

The idea being, of course, that with HPC it’s not really about the hardware specs, how many GPUs you have or the scheduler you run. It’s about understanding and enabling the users to run the workloads they need to. That wasn’t my response though.

“What, you mean  you need to able to figure out who’s telling the truth and who’s bluffing when they ask you for 256 GPUs?”

I think this bit just as true!
