Quantum vs AI in Finance

Despite the odd attention-grabbing headline, Quantum Computing seems to not be getting much attention from the finance community

Quantum vs AI in Finance

One of the most interesting things from the Quant Minds conference earlier this week for me was not what people were talking about but rather what they weren’t talking about. Quantum Computing.

Clearly, I didn’t speak to every attendee and there were two talks around quantum computing (which I couldn’t attend unfortunately, but they did look interesting). Contrast that though with constant chatter about AI, many presentations that were focused on AI, and it being mentioned in almost every other presentation that wasn’t cantered around it.

To make matters worse, this in a conference that is filled with quants. The very people who you’d think would be responsible for developing the maths needed for quantum computers to be useful in finance.

If this audience isn’t actively discussing the use of quantum computing for finance my suspicion would be that there’s nothing useful that can be done with it. Yet.
